| 内容記述 | When a native speaker of Uzbek (Turkic, Southeastern branch) assesses a particular proposition, he or she uses either V-sa kerak or V-(i)sh mumkin (V = verb stem). Earlier studies described V-sa kerak as expressing contemplated actions (Bodrogligeti 2003: 876), doubt/anxiety (Abdurahmonov et al. 1976: 110), and presumption (Kononov 1960: 398), whereas V-(i)sh mumkin expressed possibility (Bodrogligeti 2003: 853, Kononov 1960: 401) and permission (Kononov 1960: 401). Kononov (1960: 401) cites an example that can be interpreted as potential. Data from Hidaka (2013) suggest that V-(i)sh mumkin has a lower probability than V-sa kerak. However, the aforementioned studies have not examined the morpho-syntactic features in either expression; this study analyzes and considers both expressions from the same viewpoint. First, we clarify the morpho-syntactic features associated with semantic features in a corpus examination from the viewpoint of "subjectivity" (Palmer 1986: 16). In addition, we explored both expressions in an interview with a native speaker from another semantic viewpoint (probability) that is different from subjectivity. Our study concludes that the degree of subjectivity is related to these differences. V-sa kerak is used when the speaker judges that a proposition is true. This form has a higher degree of subjectivity. However, V-(i)sh mumkin is used when the speaker's proposition may be true or false. This form has a lower degree of subjectivity. | |||||||||
