The very vital point is that he employed the words ‘passiveness\u0027 and‘activeness\u0027 in it. The inspiration is considered to have been drawn from Clausewitz\u0027s strategic theory of ‘the pure resistance\u0027 said in On War(Vom Kriege, 1832-34).But Mokichi used the words just for expression, not for his assertion of his idea about On War. Mokichi is thought to have responded to On War in different way from Mori Ogai whom Mokichi respected and whose Japanese translation of On War he had read.
