Snow depth (HS) against snow cover water equivalent (HW) is shown in Fig. 2 with lines indicating mean density (G^^-=HW/HS).  Mean density ranged between 0.3~0.45 (g/cm^3) which is high in comparison with that of the dry snow cover. Relations between total Ram Hardness (ΣR) and HS, HW were expressed by the following equations, logHS=0.843+0.408logΣR. logHW=0.441+0.401logΣR. Relation between mean Ram hardness R^^-(ΣR/HS) and HS is shown in Fig. 4. Between R^^- and HS there is similar relation, though the changing point of slope is about 80g/cm^2 in HW. The index RH which multiplied ΣR by HW (RH=ΣR・HW) represents snow character concerned with the weight and hardness of the snow cover. Relation between logRH and HS was expressed by the following equation, logHS=1.58+0.290log (ΣR・HW). Fig. 6 shows the snow cover water equivalent over the Niigata plain in February, 1981, which obtained by observations at 32 points (solid circles).
