Bcl11b is a transcription factor that acts as a haploinsufficient tumor suppressor. Point mutations or decrease in Bcl11b expression were identified in human T cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) and in mouse thymic lymphoma. Here we examined the effect of the miR-17-92 cluster comprising miR-20a and miR-92a-1 on Bcl11b expression. Overexpression of miR-20a or miR-92a-1 in Jurkat cells decreased the expression of Bcl11b, and this may be regulated at the translation level through binding of these miRNAs to 3\u0027 UTR of Bcl11b mRNA. Enhanced apoptosis was observed in Jurkat cells overexpressing miR-20a or miR-92a-1, accompanying decreases in the expression of Bcl-2, an antiapoptotic protein.
