Plasma Ca^\u003c2+\u003e concentrations and Ca^\u003c2+\u003e/Mg^\u003c2+\u003e ratio decreased at the bottom 24 hours after birth, when blood pressures were low. The rate of variance of blood pressure [(BP at each hour-BP at 3 hours after birth)/BP at 3 hours after birth] was inversely correlated with that of plasma Na/erythrocyte Na ratio (systolic BP : n=126, P\u003c0.001 ; diastolic BP : n=126, P\u003c0.001), and erythrocyte Na concentration was correlated with plasma Ca^\u003c2+\u003e concentration (P\u003c0.001) and was inversely correlated with plasma Mg^\u003c2+\u003e concentration and potassium concentration (P\u003c0.001). The sodium efflux rate constant at 1st day was more than that at 5th day after birth when both systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure were raised.
