| 内容記述 | This paper focuses on the omitted subjects of the 'kara' subordinate clause in Japanese,and aims to make it clear what kind of ellipsis-principle can be applied to the sentences, byclosely observing the intra-sentential, discoursal, and situational contexts.By indentifying the referent of omitted subjects, it has been found that there are fourpatterns of the missing-subject constructions in the 'kara' subordinate clause which are calledthe main-clause-theme coreference model, the precedent-topic coreference model, thespeaker / hearer coreference model, and the no coreferential element model.It has turned out that the referent of the subject in a subordinate clause will be easy to beomitted in coreferentiality with the main clause theme or with the element which can easilyagree with the speaker's viewpoint on in the context. On the other hand, if the subject in asubordinate clause is a part of new information or focal information, it will be hard to beomitted. Moreover, apart from this, when omitting the subordinate-clause subject may invitevagueness, the subject must exist explicitly. | |||||
