| 内容記述 | Modern Japan has completely accepted Western culture as a national policy. Any "space of pictures" like Tokonoma or Husuma located in the housing of early modern Japan has disappeared in the modern period. For "space of pictures", exhibition has replaced housing. Many new pictures collected by nationwide selection are now exhibited in Tokyo, and museums, as a "space of pictures", began to accept them. Popularity of exhibitions and museums accelerated the separation of pictures from housing, although western pictures exhibited at museums stimulated Japanese "modern art". After World War II, with the increasing number of local museums, spaces for permanent exhibition in museums increased as well. However, as housing lost "space of pictures" and galleries were treated lightly, we citizens now look upon museum collections and the museum itself as "alien objects". Thinking of the future of Japanese museums, which have different historical roots from Western ones, we should reevaluate the role of housing and gallery as "private" space and try to find a way to the new style of arts linked with our community. | |||||
