内容記述 Tracer techniques have proven to be one of the most powerful tools to characterize the movement of air mass and pollutant transport in hydrological systems. In order to clarify the behavior of low- level tritium in the rain water, we have employed the measuring method of tritium applying a distillation process and an electrolytic enrichment process. The activity of tritium (T-concentration) in the water thus obtained was measured by liquid scintillation counter (LSC). This procedure was applied to bulk precipitation, imitative ground infiltrated precipitation and short term precipitation collected in Niigata city. Moreover, we investigated the concentrations of ionic species (Na^+, K^+, Ca^<2+>, Mg^<2+>, NH_4^+, SO_4^<2->, NO_3^-, and Cl^-) in the precipitation to associate with air mass transport patterns arriving at the place. From the above mentioned, next matters have been clarified: (1) Compared with other elements, tritium is an ideal nature tracer using study of atmospheric environment. (2) Electrolytic enrichment is a safe, flexible and useful method that measured the low level tritium in precipitation. (3) The distribution of tritium in precipitation affected by latitude, season and geographical position; higher T concentration appears in spring through one year, and high latitude effect appears at the northern hemisphere nowadays. (4) The major soluble ions in this region were Ca^<2+>, K^+, Mg^<2+>, Na^+, NH_4^+, and SO_4^<2->; ionic concentrations were characterized by two factors: one is natural and human life from local region and adjacent continent; the other is meteorological conditions such as wind and rainfall including the Asian monsoon. (5) It was considered that some precipitation consist of a sea salt (ss) generated from the ocean and of a non sea salt (nss) from the adjacent continents; Ca^<2+> and NH_4^+ mainly originated from the continent; and Na and Cl were mainly originated from ocean. (6) The origin of air masses can be estimated using their elemental compositions and concentrations in precipitation. (7) T-concentration and associated ions in monthly precipitation showed a seasonal variation, in fact, it is found that the seasonal variations of Ca^<2+> concentration and T-concentration were similar: increase in spring and then decreasing from autumn to early winter through the year. (8) Chemical composition in short term precipitation depends on local meteorological condition and artificial sours: tritium and marine resources such as Na^+ and Cl^- increase with increasing wind speed. (9) The method of back-trajectory analysis for air mass may be a useful method to understand the variation of air mass and be also useful to estimate air pollution. (10) Using the method obtained in this work, a movement of air mass can be inspected without the measurement of tritium concentration, and the collection method of precipitation can be useful to measure the variations of materials in precipitation, more clearly.
