The matrix material was 2024 aluminum alloy. The SiC particles were between 2 and 10 |xm in diameter (d) with volume fractions (V_f) between 2 and 10%. The MMCP of the disk were rubbed against the 0.45% carbon steel of the pin with a load of 10 N at a sliding velocity of 0.1 m/s. The steady-state wear rate of MMC_P decreased with increasing d and V_f. On the other hand, the wear rate of the steel counterface increased with increasing d and V_f. The wear rate was affected by two factors; one is the effect of reinforced particles against adhesive wear, and the other is the abrasive action of reinforcements.
