A series of experiment with Japanese monkeys was done to investigate whether wrapping of suture site or of free tendon graft with an appropriate dialysis tube (with 23 \u0026 40 mm in diameter made by Union Carbide Co. and with 4 \u0026 8 mm in diameter made by Spectrum Medical Industries Inc.) could attain sound union of suture sites without causing adhesion, and the following results were obtained. 1. Very thin (0.056 mm in thickness) synovia-like membrane was formed surrounding a dialysis tube. 2. Suture sites wrapped up with a dialysis tube can heal without adhesion but healing delays for ca. one week. 3. Proximal and distal suture site of a free tendon graft wrapped up with a dialysis tube in situ heals well at 8 weeks and the tube can be totally pulled out without difficulty through a small skin incision placed at the proximal suture site. 4. Suture sites of a free tendon graft, if uncovered with a dialysis tube can heal at 5 weeks, and the adhesion at the proximal suture site can be easily released by a small skin incision through which the dialysis tube can also be removed without difficulty. 5. A free tendon piece completely wrapped up with a dialysis tube and kept in the abdominal cavity survives by metabolism with abdominal fluid which passes through the dialysis tube. 6. Nearly satisfactory result was obtained in two cases in which this method was applied.
