One of the fundamental processes of functioning magnocellular neurons is the stimulus-secreting coupling, that is the translation of electrical activity of the neurons into the release of precise quantities of neurosecretory products, vasopressin and oxytocin. It could be therefore estimated releasing activity of neuropeptides from their axonal terminals in the neurohypophysis by recording the spontaneous unitary discharge activity of the mNSNs. Several powerful and reasonably specific stimuli which influence the discharge activity of the mNSN have been studied in our past experiments.
