| 内容記述 | Fifty cases, 44 males and 6 females, who had a quadricepsplasty for extension contracture of the knee joints secondary to fracture of femur, patella and proximal tibia between 1955 and 1986 in Niigata University Hospital were identified in a retrospective study. Extension contracture occured in 35 cases (70 per cent) due to traffic accident. In the treatment of fracture, the knee joint was immobilized at least for two months in operative cases, and for three months in non-operative cases. In all cases, adhesion was found in both intra and extraarticular region. The range of motion of the knee joint was greater than 90 degree in 34 cases (68 per cent) and also greater in cases without elongation of rectus femoris muscle than in cases with it at the follow-up examination. The significant influencing factors on the range of motion at the follow-up were the age at operation, the preoperative range of motion and radiological findings of osteoarthritis and the range of motion obtained in operation. Early postoperative exercise with a continuous passive motion apparatus did not increase the range of motion at the follow-up more than that obtained in operation, but reached the range earlier. | |||||
