On July 25, 1992, the Institutional staff of the Brain Research Institute and its patrons who have supported the development of the Institute since its inception joined together to commemorate the 25th anniversary and to pledge to work for the institute\u0027s further development. All the departments of the Institute were opened to the public, and commemorative lectures were given by Professor Shoji Tsuji, Professor Masayoshi Mishina, and Professor Emeritus Hajime Mannen, who has been closely associated with the Institute for many years. Their lectures are printed in this journal. Then followed a ceremony and a celebration. In 1957, The Brain Research Institute of Niigata University began as a laboratory attached to the Niigata Medical College (predecessor of today\u0027s Niigata University, School of Medicine). Its establishment was made possible by the achievements of Dr. Mizuho Nakata (the pioneer of neurosurgery), Dr. Ko Hirasawa (the neuroanatomist), and Dr. Tatsuji Ito (the neuropathologist). The institute became an independent institute in 1967 with the major purpose of studying the mechanisms of the brain and brain diseases and applying their findings to various fields.
