 note = {There are many kind of hearing disorder. Some diseases cause an irreversible hearing loss, but middle ear diseases are possible to improve hearing by the surgical treatment. It is very important to diagnose the cause of the hearing loss from the local findings, audiometric examination and image findings. This leads us to adopt the adequate surgical procedure for hearing improvement. Now we reviewed these surgical techniques including myringoplasty, ossicular reconstruction and stapes surgery and their indication. Currently the result of surgical treatment is relatively good and successful rate of hearing is 70-80 %. It had been improved compared with 10 years ago. Further in the future for improvement of hearing, we should improve the stability of the reconstruction material. At the same time, we have to consider about patients who couldn't get the aerated middle ear cavity. It is important the prevention of severe otitis media because it could lead so severe hearing loss. We would like to challenge to obtain the better successful rate in the future.},
