社会参加や生活活動の制限および要介護を要する状態である．成人期の脊柱変形はロコモの原因となり，その背景には体幹筋から殿筋力の低下が強く関連している. 同じくロコモの原因となる筋肉量の減少と移動能力の低下をきたす加齢性筋減弱症（サルコベニア） も体幹筋力機能不全の原因となる．成人期の脊柱変形の病態評価としては,X線やMRIなど各種画像検査による脊柱アライメント評価が行われてきたが，歩行機能など動的な評価が本病態の本質的な理解と診断には不可欠である．近年ではMRIなどに加え超音波診断装慨を用いた体幹筋の量的および質的評価が可能となっており， また理学療法士による歩行機能，体幹筋力評価も加えて，成人期の脊柱変形の総合的な評価を行っている．
