Topical theme and aboutness-topic have a close relationship to each other, but we found significant differences between Japanese and Chinese texts as regards the kinds of cohesion achieved by those two functional elements. First, there are more "synonymy/collocation" and "reference" relationships occurred in Japanese topical theme, but there are more cases of "repetition" and "non-cohesion" found in Chinese topical theme. Second, the top two kinds of cohesion carried by Japanese aboutness-topic are "connotation" and "synonymy/collocation", but in the case of Chinese aboutness-topic are "ellipsis" and "repetition". Consequently, it is found out that aboutness-topic tends to assume a function of linking clauses as a sentence more frequently in Chinese than in Japanese.}, pages = {213--230}, title = {日中エピソード文における結束性と主題の展開}, volume = {26}, year = {2003} }
