As a result of the socialism system establishment, private universities and colleges were merged or blocked. Since the adoption of market socialism in 1978, however, private universities and colleges which called "people-run" universities (colleges) or "society-run" universities (colleges) by the official China media have reemerged. And then they have made a rapid development in these years. At the same time, China center government has carried on the reform in financing of higher education. By the early twenty-first century, China central government wanted to rationalize the higher education system by increasing the scale of existing institution and amalgamating small-size institutions but did not encourage private universities and colleges to develop. From the early twenty-first century, the government changed its attitude to private universities and colleges so as to perform quantitative expansion of higher education. With the quantitative expansion of higher education, the problems of the difference between areas and income appeared, and high burden of the family budget ruins the equal educational opportunities. This paper analyses the quantitative expansion and development of private universities and colleges of China higher education, to consider that whether the development of private universities and colleges can contribute to equality of opportunity of higher education.}, pages = {175--192}, title = {中国高等教育の量的拡大と民営大学の発展}, volume = {37}, year = {2006} }
