Article 790 of the Civil Code states that a child\u0027s family name shall be decided according to the family name of his/her parent. A family name of a legitimate child shall be the family name of his/her parents and a family name of an illegitimate child is entitled to apply to a family court for changing his/her family name to his/her father\u0027s family name once s/he is acknowledged paternity by his/her father.
