In the course of economic growth there has been a broadening income gap among Provinces. A comparison between income gaps among Provinces with those among Prefectures in Japan is made. An quantitative analysis is made based on statistical data from economic perspectives. Chapter II gives an overview about income gaps in China, Japan and world. Chapter III analyzes tendencies of income gaps among Provinces in China during the period 1984-2006 on a time series basis. In the comparison between income gaps among Provinces with those among Prefectures in Japan variation indices and the Gini coefficient are used. this paper confirms that in the inland regions of China income gaps between cities and villages are more severe than in maritime regions.
