Lysophosphatidylinositol (LPI) formation, an indicator of PLA_2 activation, was completely inhibited by pretreatment with pertussis toxin, but inositol-1, 4, 5-triphosphate (IP_3) formation, an indicator of PLC activation, was reduced by about 50%. Prostaglandin E_1 inhibited IP_3 formation completely, but only reduced LPI formation by about 50%. However, cholera toxin did not affect either formation.
