Data were analysed descriptively (mean/SD, linear regression) and sine wave models were fitted. Periodicity was investigated by means of autocorrelation. Relations between cortisol levels and hematology parameters were assessed using a crosscorrelation technique. Neutrophils correlated significantly with cortisol levels with a time lag of less than 4 hours. In contrast, the correlation of lymphocytes and cortisol was characterized by a time lag of 4 hours and that of eosinophils at a lag time of 4 hours In conclusion, hematology parameters and plasma cortisol appear to be closely related within a complex feedback network.
