 note = {Stresses in elliptical-cross-section coil springs become small as compared to other springs used in practical machines at a certain aspect ratio. This article presents a simplified stress expression for designing the elliptical-cross section coil springs. The stresses obtained by the present design formula are compared with those obtained by numerical methods.
