This paper deals with the development of a method of detecting the number of sheets of paper and cloth. This detecting method utilizes the variations of the phase of the transfer function of the entire acoustic system including the sheets. The impedance of sheets varies with their number. Thus the number of sheets shows good correspondence with the phase of the transfer function of the acoustic system.
