Mt. Iide over Niigata, Yamagata and Fukushima prefectures is known as a rich mine for silica sand. In this study, we adopted natural resource (silica sand from Mt. Iide, Osodani area) as a starting material for the synthesis of akermanite type long-persistent phosphor Sr_2MgSi_2O_7: Eu^<2+>, Dy^<3+>.
