The aim of this study is to clarify an employment trend among midwives after graduating and to evaluate the midwifery education program by graduates. The subjects were graduates of our midwifery program (N=207). We conducted two combined surveys: one online survey using a self-administered questionnaire, and the one by interview with voluntary participants (N=4) to clarify the opinion on the program evaluation in detail. This study was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Niigata University School of Medicine in Niigata, Japan (No.2390). The survey results revealed that almost 80% of graduates had begun working as midwives after graduation, majorities of whom were employed in advanced medical centers, approximately half were employed outside the prefecture. Participants reported that they had learned the basic midwifery skills and attitudes necessary to work as professional midwives in clinical practice.
