A total of 150 high school students completed a self-administered questionnaire. Basic and general competency for social and vocational independence consists of 4 abilities. The 4 abilities are the following: (a) ability to connect with others and society, (b) ability to understand oneself and to manage oneself, (c) ability to respond to problems, (d) ability to plan a career. The results indicated that basic and general competency scores and learning motivation were correlated. Then, basic and general competency scores and the length of subjective learning time were correlated.
