We sent these universities a questionnaire and received a reply from 46 of them last August. The questionnaire asked 9 questions about the present curriculum, the various reforms they have carried out since \"Taikoka\" in July, 1991, and the problems they have and solutions for those problems, etc. We believe that the information we obtained by this investigation will be very useful as a basic knowledge for our discussion with regard to reforms in foreign language education which are to be made from 1997 on at Niigata University. The results of each question were analized and commented on by the members of the Foreign Language Education Working Group.
