Over 60% of students reported feeling panic and confusion during the silence. The students who dislike the silence believed that silence led to a bad impression. They would panic, miss the meaning behind the silence, and were unable to pay attention to the patient in the silent situation. Therefore, they could not engage in adequate student-patient communication. The students who did not dislike the silence seemed to have more knowledge of the role of silence and more experience with intentional silence.
