 note = {Some examples of the middle Pleistocene upheavals and foldings are confirmed, along the Shibata-Koide tectonic line, the boundary between the Niigata Cenozoic basin on the west and the Echigo mountains on the east being composed mainly of the pre Tertiary basement rocks. They are, namely, the upheavals of the Gozu granitic mass, the Pliocene andesite mass, and the folding with partial thrusting of the Uonuma hilly land. Furthermore, the mass movement deposits followed these middle Pleistocene upheavals, such as mudflow deposits at the Gozu Mt, and talus deposits at the Uonuma hilly land can be clearly recognized. These deposits are regarded as the oldest fossil deposits of the mass movement, which occurred after the appearance of modern geographical features.},
