From the results of this consideration, the following notable points are drawn: 1. The local factors of safety for shear strength and the total factor of safety of a slope should be distinguished, however these factors are not distinguished in Bishop's and other methods of slices. 2. The factors of safety for moment may be regarded as the most fundamental for the reason that its physical significance for the stability of slopes is clear. 3. Because ΣS/ΣT (S and T are the resistant shear forces and the equilibrium shear forces along the sliding surface, respectively) is equal to the factor of safety for moment only on the assumption of a circular sliding surface, this expression should be regarded as a formula for calculating the factor of safety only in the case of a circular sliding surface, but not a generalized expression for the definition of the factor of safety.}, pages = {173--178}, title = {斜面安定解析における安全率の定義について (中俣三郎教授退官記念号)}, volume = {7}, year = {1986} }
