Using a corpus of recorded Skype conversations between Japanese non-native speakers of English and non-Japanese non-native speakers of English, who are all students at the same Japanese university, this study demonstrates that the substitution of either the /ɹ/ or the /l/ phoneme with the flap /ɾ/ phoneme in conversational praxis is fully intelligible for the conversationalists in the rpus. This study concludes that the exact articulation of the /ɹ/ and /l/ phonemes is superfluous to intelligible communication between Japanese non-native English speakers and other non-Japanese non-native English speakers.","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_7_publisher_7":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"新潟大学"}]},"item_7_select_19":{"attribute_name":"著者版フラグ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_select_item":"publisher"}]},"item_7_source_id_9":{"attribute_name":"ISSN","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"18841988","subitem_source_identifier_type":"ISSN"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"O'Neal, George"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"158906","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2019-08-20"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"18_39-62.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"635.1 kB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_note","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"18_39-62.pdf","url":"https://niigata-u.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/27378/files/18_39-62.pdf"},"version_id":"73cddff0-d3b9-4299-9119-e1ea41a94387"}]},"item_keyword":{"attribute_name":"キーワード","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_subject":"Intelligibility","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"Conversation Analysis","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"English as a Lingua Franca","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"Flap","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"Tap","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"R","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"L","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"eng"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"departmental bulletin paper","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"No Need to Quit Your Flapping : The Intelligibility of Flap /ɾ/ Phoneme Substitutions for either the /ɹ/ or /l/ Phonemes in Non-native English Speaker Conversations","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"No Need to Quit Your Flapping : The Intelligibility of Flap /ɾ/ Phoneme Substitutions for either the /ɹ/ or /l/ Phonemes in Non-native English Speaker Conversations"},{"subitem_title":"No Need to Quit Your Flapping : The Intelligibility of Flap /ɾ/ Phoneme Substitutions for either the /ɹ/ or /l/ Phonemes in Non-native English Speaker Conversations","subitem_title_language":"en"}]},"item_type_id":"7","owner":"1","path":["456","1486"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"公開日","attribute_value":"2013-11-13"},"publish_date":"2013-11-13","publish_status":"0","recid":"27378","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["No Need to Quit Your Flapping : The Intelligibility of Flap /ɾ/ Phoneme Substitutions for either the /ɹ/ or /l/ Phonemes in Non-native English Speaker Conversations"],"weko_creator_id":"1","weko_shared_id":null},"updated":"2022-12-15T03:57:17.231888+00:00"}
