The subjects were 208 outpatients visited Niigata University Dental Hospital for dental treatment in 1992. The results were as follows; One hundred and sixty-five of the 208 outpatients were mentally retarded. The age of patients at their first visit widely ranged from 11 months to 50 years and 4 years were the largest proportion. We found that degree of co-operation for dental treatment of the patients was improved gradually by the serial treatment, even if they did not show the co-operative behavior during treatment at their first visit.
