A total of 40 emergency cases occurred in 8 years. Emergency cases which were needed to call for a rescue happened to occur durilng some kinds of dental treatments in 32 cases. Twelve cases belonged to the department of oral surgery, and 11 cases to that of prothodontics, and these accidents seemed to occur during surgical operations or prothodontic treatments. In 19 cases local anesthesia was applied to the patients when emergency cases occurred, and they occurred just after the injections of local anesthesia in 10 cases of them. Neurogenic shock due to pain (10 cases) and hyperventilation (5 cases) were the most commonly observed accidents and a severe pain during the injections of local anesthesia and dental treatments has a possibility to induce them. Psychological factors such as fear and anxiety against the dental treatments and systemic complications also seemed to be responsible for the accidents. Because of adequate treatments to the accidents which were conducted by dental anesthesiologist these accidents have not resulted in lethal one yet.
