The purpose of this study is to verify the occurrence of microleakages and to certify the clinical technique in order to avoid microleakage by using three different types of resin bonding systems which are known to have enough bonding strength to dentin. After pretreatment of three types of resin bonding systems, composite resin was filled in the cervical cavities which had been prepared on extracted human premolars. Then three polishing groups, namely, immediately polished group, resin impregnation group and one week water-immersed before polishing group were examined. The specimens were stained and the marginal-leakage was measured under measuring microscope. Further the Laser Scanning Microscope was used to observe the pretreated surface of dentin and enamel. The elemental distribution on adhered surface was analyzed by Electron probe micro-analyzer. Results showed that microleakage was significant on the enamel margin more than on dentinal margin. The present investigation showed that one week water-immersed before polishing group and resin impregnation group have strong marginal seal even after mechanical cyclic load test and thermal load test. Further, the degree of decalcification on pretreated surface is significantly different by the pretreatment agents, and the distribution of elements on adhered dentin surface is dissimilar by the bonding agents because of their permeability into dentin. The present study showed that the complete elimination of marginal leakage is not perfect yet even with the presence of the three bonding systems used in this study.
