In this study, to effectively conduct education in oral hygiene through systematically formulated classes, we tested various model classes of oral hygiene as out-of-school supporters in cooperation with members of the school staff including homeroom teachers and school nurses, compared diferent class styles, and carried out a questionnaire in school nurses about how education in oral hygiene should be conducted to envision new class styles. Goals set for each class could be achieved by conducting the class in cooperation with members of the school staff. The results of the questionnaire indicated that school nurses seek expert guidance and cooperation by dentists. From these observations, we consider that the Team-Teaching method should be regarded as the first choice and that the class style should be selected according to the size and situation of the school, principles of school and class management, and the attitude of the dentist toward teaching classes for dentists to be involved in education in oral hygiene in elementary and junior high schools and to smoothly teach classes as out-of-school supporters.
