Measles was not prevalent probably because of widely spread immunization. Rubella was prevalent three times, but each prevalence did not spread to Joetsu area. Varicella was prevalent in summer as well as in winter in both 1983 and 1986. As for streptococcal infection, group A type 12 and type 4 were often isolated. Atypical pneumonia was prevalent in 1984. Rotavirus enteritis was prevalent widely in December, 1985. Infectious diarrhea except for rotavirus enteritis was prevalent widely in February and March, 1986. Hand, foot and mouth disease was prevalent widely in 1983 and 1985. Herpangina was prevalent widely in 1984. Erythema infectiosum was prevalent in both Toukamachi-shi and Nakauonuma-gun in 1983, and in both Kashiwazaki-shi and Kariwa-gun in 1986, which was prevalent again in the same area after a few months. Pharyngoconjunctival fever was prevalent in both Mitsuke-shi and Minamikanbara-gun in 1984 and in Nishikanbara-gun in 1985. Epidemic keratoconjunctivitis was prevalent in Minamiuonuma-gun in both 1984 and 1986. Acute hemorrhagic conjunctivitis was prevalent in Shibata-shi, Toyosaka-shi and Kitakanbara-gun in 1986. The peak prevalence of influenza was in December, 1985, which was 1 or 2 months earlier than other winters.
