 note = {Prior to the discovery of insulin in 1921, the association of diabetes mellitus and pregnancy was almost nonexistent. Thereafter, the outlook and the life span of the diabetic patient changed dramatically and, as a consequence of improved treatment, amenorrhea disappeared, fertility increased, and pregnancy became more of a reality. It has been, however, still true that diabetes mellitus is a high-risk complication of pregnancy. Apparently prepregnancy management for women disiring to have a baby is very important to check the worsening of microangiopathy due to pregnancy  and to prevent congenital malformation of babies born to diabetic mothers.},
