Thereafter, the outlook and the life span of the diabetic patient changed dramatically and, as a consequence of improved treatment, amenorrhea disappeared, fertility increased, and pregnancy became more of a reality. It has been, however, still true that diabetes mellitus is a high-risk complication of pregnancy.
