The subjects comprised 27 patients with colorectal cancer, 29　patients with colorectal adenoma, 14 patients with inflammatory bowel disease, 7 patients with advanced gastric cancer and 23 colonoscopically provened normal subjects. False-negative rate for colorectal cancers were 25.9% in RPHA and 22.2% in Latex aggulutination. False-positive rate in normal subjects were 17.4% and 4.3%, respectively. The proportion of positive finding in rectal cancers was lower than that in other site of colonic cancers. Thus, it appeared that fecal occult blood tests alone was not sufficient to screen for rectal cancers. In colorectal adenomas, 8 out of 27 patients were positive by both methods. Increasing size of adenoma, the proportion of positive results was higher. In 5 patients with Dukes A colorectal cancers and 8 patients with adenomas more than 10mm, the detection rate was over 50%. Therefore, it suggested that occult bleeding from colonic neoplasms are determined by their size, not by type of tumors.
