 note = {Although the acute pain is treated successfully in the recent medical development, many doctors are disappointed at the result with the inadequate therapy for the chronic pain. The extensive study for management of the chronic pain is now essentially necessary. The author estimates the damage at about 2 thousand million yen which is caused by the unworkable period due to pain and by the medical cost for pain management. The establishment of the National Pain Research lnstitute is urgent necessity where the National Cancer lnstitute is evaluated by the success of the cancer therapy and cancer research to a considerable extent. From the experiences in the wide range of treatments of various kinds of pain since 1962, the treatments for the diseases such as trigeminal neuralgia, headache and facial pain, reflex sympathetic dystrophy, herpes zoster, cancer pain, lumbago, ureteral stone and others are described in nerve blocking therapy which is situated between the drug therapy and the surgical therapy in this paper.},
