This resurgence is due to a new type of tsutsugamushi disease which mainly occurs in spring and autumn and is designated as compared with the classical summer type. The vertical transmission of Rickettsia tsutsugamushi in the vector mite has been examined in family lines, and some epidemiological knowledges on the relationship between vector mite and Rickettsia have also been obtained in Japan. On the other hand, the microbiological findings on the Rickettsia, such as chemical and antigenic structures, confirmation of various antigenic variants and so on, have been accumulated.
