The brain checkup was performing in nine hospitals:4 in Niigata city, 4 in Chuetsu area, 1 in Kaetsu area. Both MRI and MRA were included as routine examinations in all hospitals. Intensity of a magnetic field was 1.5T in 4 hospitals, 1T in 4 and 0.5T in 1. MR imagings were T1, T2 and PD weighted images in 6 hospitals, T1, T2, PD and Gd-enhanced T1 in 1, T1 and T2 in 1, and T2 and PD in 1. An averaged fee of brain checkup was ¥47,673. The total number examined in a screening system for healthy volunteers was 1920 people aged 19 to 85 years until the end of Aug. , 1995. Intracranial diseases found out were brain tumor in 12 cases(0.6%), suspected aneurysm in 45(2%)including 11 cases with detected aneurysm, and brain infarction in 308 cases(16%). Two, one and one cases suffered from brain infarction, cerebral hemorrhage and subarachnoid hemorrhage after brain checkup, respectively.
