 note = {About 250 thousands of residents in Niigata prefecture are recently examined through a basic physical checkup system in a single year, as compared with less than 5 thousands in 1964. It is regrettable that the examinee rate is decreasing lately, and the rate in Niigata fell below the rate in the whole country for the first time in 1993. As favorable effect, the high blood pressure rate and the death rate from cerebrovascular diseases are reduced lately year by year, partly caused by improved life style. However, it is worried that the increasing rate of the high cholesterol may cause ischaemic heart diseases. A record linkage system between the checkup data and a registry system of cerebrovascular and heart diseases must be developped.},
