However, it is not clear whether Aβ fibers transmit the sensory information to the new territory after peripheral nerve transection. In the present study we found both monosynaptic and polysynaptic responses elicited by Aβ fiber in lamina II neurons of the adult rat with sciatic nerve transection. These observations suggest that sensory information conveyed by Aβ afferents is directly or indirectly transmitted to lamina II neurons which hardly receive Aβ afferent inputs in normal condition.
