In the family group counseling therapists provided the relatives with information about the disorder, discussed how to solve their ploblems and supported them. At the termination of the family group counseling, almost all the relatives (fourteen out of eighteen relatives) stated that talking with the relatives who have the same troubles provided them with relief from their anxiety and encouragement. To examine the efficacy of the family group counseling, Expressed Emotion (EE) rating tests, based on Five Minute Speech Samples (FMSS), were conducted on fifteen relatives at the beginning and the termination of the counseling. Four parents had high EE ratings at the beginning of counseling. All four parents experienced a decrease in their EE levels by the termination of counseling. One parent experienced an increase in her EE level because her daughter dropped out of treatment. During the course of counseling, patients' eating behavior tended to become stable and a spontaneous parents' self-help group tended to form. These findings suggest that psycho-educational family group counseling is effective for the treatment of eating disorders.}, pages = {21--26}, title = {2)摂食障害家族に対する心理教育的家族教室(シンポジウム 心身医学, 心理療法をめぐって, 第538回新潟医学会)}, volume = {113}, year = {1999} }
