Triage, sorting process based on priority and severity, is considered as the most important in primary care. However, it can not be taught without an actual clinical practice of emergency care. A survey of Japanese emergency medical education, performed by emergency department of Saga medical college in 1997, has demonstrated that there are enormous discrepancies in an actual educational program between the national and the private university. Considering that more students graduate from the national university than the private one, these discrepancies should be promptly resolved.
