The principles of treatment of osteosarcoma have undergone dramatic changes in past 40 years. Until 1960's, five-year survival was less than 10%. The advancement of chemotherapy has improved the prognosis, and 70% of the patients can be expected to be long-term survivors. Conservative surgery combined with radio-chemotherapy has improved not only the prognosis but also the function of affected limbs.
