The photo-electron transfer (PET)-promoted oxygenation reaction catalyzed by 2,4,6-triphenylpyrylium perchlorate (TPPClO_4) was found to be an effective and green method for the deprotection of various 1,3-dithianes. In this paper the green deprotection reaction was modified for teaching material of undergraduate chemical experiments without using expensive equipments. Various 1,3-dithianes were efficiently deprotected to afford the corresponding carbonyl compounds by using sunlight and TPPClO_4 as part of green chemistry.
