Saccade was analyzed quantitatively by a general purpose digital computer (PDP 11/40), which measured latency, maximum eye speed (MES), accuracy and velocity pattern. The details of the analytic method were basically those reported previously. Examinations were performed on 55 patients with 5 different disorders; 1. Spinocerebellar degeneration (SCD) 2. Methylmercury intoxication (MMC) 3. Brainstem legion 4. Acoustic Tumor (AT) 5. Peripheral legion. In the 4 parameters measured quantitatively, MES was the most useful for diagnosis of central legion. Patients with brainstem legion had singificant slowing of MES, but did'nt have marked dysmetria. On the other hand, patients with SCD and MMC had slight slowing of MES and had hypometria or inaccurate saccade amplitude. Patients with AT and peripheral legion had no abnormal findings.
