Mumps vaccination is not spreading due to fear of possible side effects. The vaccination was evaluated by utility analysis from the standpoint of those who receive the vaccination. The analysis was based on the mean utility rate obtained from a survey using a questionnaire by the rating scale methods. The expected utility rate was then examined by two methods. The first method did not consider the time as a factor, but the second method was based on the assumption that the utility rate is decreased by 5% of the discounting rate annually. As a result, if the time is not considered, the vaccination would be beneficial in general. The sensitivity analysis revealed that the potential infection rate, and the utility rate and incidence of mild side effects were the most influential factors. If the time is considered and the utility rate is assumed to decrease by 5% of the annual discounting rate, then the vaccination was not found to be beneficial. In conclusion, a reduction in the incidence of adverse side effects is important for promoting the vaccination.
