Inoue Yasushi published the novel The roof tile of Tempyo in 1957. This novel earned the Award of the Minister of Education for Fine Arts the year after it was published. While The roof tile of Tempyo was drawing public interest, Inoue’s early short story also based on the Envoys dispatched to the Tang Dynasty, named Tears of monk Gyoga, also started drawing public attention. Some experts consider Tears of monk Gyoga as the foundation of The roof tile of Tempyo. In this paper, the focus is on the comparison of the images of the monk Gyoga, the monk Gyoko and the monk Fusho and analyses their relationship by comparing them to articles.
